edgar calabia samar writes poetry & fiction, and has received national prizes from the carlos palanca memorial awards for literature for his poetry collections (2002, 2004) and futuristic fiction (2003), from the pbby-salanga writer's prize for his children's stories (2002, 2004), from the gawad surian sa tula for his 10-part poem (2004), and recently from the ncca writer's prize for his novel-in-progress (2005).

his books are "uuwi na ang nanay kong si darna!" (adarna house, 2002), "isa na namang pagtingala sa buwan" (national commission for culture & the arts, 2005), and "pag-aabang sa kundiman: isang tulambuhay" (admu office of research & publication, 2006). his poems, short stories, and essays are published in various anthologies, journals, and magazines, which include "ikatlong bagting," "sleepless in manila," "aklat likhaan ng tula at maikling kuwento 1999 & 2000," "the likhaan book of poetry & fiction 2001," "the loyola schools review," "diliman review," "philippine panorama," "sunday inquirer magazine," "heights," "matanglawin," "tomas," "dapitan," "musa," & "sulyap."

he also teaches philippine literature and creative writing at the ateneo de manila university, where he finished his a.b. in psychology (2002) and m.a. in literature-filipino (2004). he is now enrolled under the ph.d. filipino-malikhaing pagsulat at the university of the philippines-diliman.
